Lawnside and Berlin were destinations for Black drivers during the Jim Crow era. The night clubs, restaurants, beauty salons and barbershops provided safe spaces where people could relax and enjoy themselves. The NJ Historical Commission provided a grant for research to produce a documentary and website.
